Abstract

This randomized, prospective study compares frequency-doubling perimetry (FDP), automated perimetry (AP) and visual evoked potentials (VEP) for their ability to diagnose early glaucoma. 198 patients of Clinic for Eye Diseases, Clinical Hospital "Sestre Milosrdnice" that had diagnosis of open angle glaucoma and glaucomatous visual field loss proven by automated static perimetry on only one eye were included in the study. Also, 40 participants with no eye deseases, no neurological or neuroophtalmological diseases that could effect visusl field, and with no deviation detected with neithe FDP or CAP, were included as a control group. Patients were followed for 18 months. Visual evoked potentials, automated perimetry and frequency-doubling perimetry were performed four times, in each patient, with six months period in between testing. Statistically significant difference was found between frequency-doubling perimetry and automated perimetry in favor for FDP in early detection of glaucomatous field loss. Also, there was statistically significant difference between FDP and VEP, again in favor of FDP. The results of this study indicate that frequency-doubling perimetry is significantly better method for early detection of glaucomatous visual field loss than automated static perimetry.

Abstract in Croatian

Ova randomizirana, prospektivna, komparativna studija uspoređuje mogućnosti frequency-doubling perimetrije s kompjuteriziranom statičkom perimetrijom i VEP tehnikom u ranom otkrivanju glaukomskog oštećenja vidnoga polja.
