Abstract

The workload of radiologists has been commonly estimated by the number of performed procedures. More accurate estimates can be obtained using dimensionless units, which measure the workload of each radiological procedure (Relative Value Units, RVU). Using the RVU system the complexity of the radiological procedures can also be determined and analyzed. In studies on the radiologists workload data are usually collected by survey, and the unavailability of radiologists is usually neglected. In this work, a computational method for objective measurement of the workload of radiologists was developed. Data on the number of the procedures and radiologists who performed the procedures were collected from the archives of radiological reports and the RVU system developed by American Medical Association was used. Developed method was used on radiologic reports from eleven year period. Significant positive trend and seasonality of the workload was found. Also, there was a significant positive trend of the complexity of the radiologic procedures, as well as increasing homogeneity of the radiologists’ workload.

Radno opterećenje specijalista radiologije obično se procjenjuje brojem obavljenih radioloških pregleda i postupaka. Točnije procjene se mogu dobiti korištenjem bezdimenzijskih jedinica koje mjere radno opterećenje svakom vrstom radiološkog pregleda ili postupka (RVU, prema engl. Relative Value Units). Korištenjem RVU sustava može se analizirati i zahtjevnost radioloških pregleda i postupaka. U istraživanjima radnog opterećenja i zahtjevnosti radioloških pregleda i postupaka podaci o pregledima i postupcima prikupljaju se uglavnom anketom, a nedostupnost radiologa za klinički rad se obično zanemaruje. U ovom radu razvijena je objektivna računalna metoda mjerenja radnog opterećenja specijalista radiologije i zahtjevnosti radioloških pregleda i postupaka temeljem podataka o broju i vrsti radioloških pregleda i postupaka i broju i dostupnosti specijalista radiologije iz arhive radioloških nalaza, uz korištenje RVU sustava Američkog medicinskog društva. Razvijenom metodom demonstriranom na radiološkim nalazima iz jedanaestogodišnjeg razdoblja izmjeren je značajan uzlazan trend i otkrivena sezonalnost radnog opterećenja radiologa. Izmjeren je i značajan uzlazan trend zahtjevnosti radioloških pregleda i postupaka, kao i povećanje homogenosti radnog opterećenja specijalista radiologije.
